The entire last page shall be drawn up in French.

Additional pages of the International Driving Permit shall repeat in other languages the text of Part I of the last page. They shall be drawn up in the following languages:

a. Language(s) prescribed by the legislation of the issuing State,

b. The official languages of the United Nations,

c. At the most six other languages, chosen at the discretion of the issuing State.

The written remarks shall be written in Latin characters or in so called English script.

The above, of course, is an excerpt from the United Nations Charter on road traffic. This document describes in exact detail how an international driving license should be printed, right down to exact size and color of cover and paper.

IDL's are being offered in a rainbow of colors on the internet along with worthless plastic cards which without doubt will only add to confusion when they are presented to foreign officials. Also know that the very next paragraph of Annex 10, clearly states that an international license may be issued for 5 years. Other travel agencies pass along a misconception that they are only issued for 1 year. This canard has you going back annually to renew memberships and purchase new photos, not to mention the waste of your time and travel to their offices.
